Pollen is what honey bees use for protein. Mixed with honey, it's what is fed to help the honey bee brood develop into strong and healthy bees. The human body requires 22 basic elements and bee pollen contains them all. Some elements you may recognize, such as B vitamins, free amino acids, folic acid, enzymes and antioxidants.
Pollen can be consumed directly, or by adding it to other foods such as yogurt or smoothies.
*Consult with your physician before using bee pollen as an alternative or support remedy for any medical problems*
Storage & Shelf Life
Refrigeration: Store bee pollen in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. Cold temperatures slow the natural degradation of nutrients and flavor.
Freezing: For longer-term storage, bee pollen freezes well. Place it in a sealed, airtight container or freezer bag — removing as much air as possible — and store it in the freezer. Scoop out what you need and return the rest to the freezer promptly.
Keep it sealed: Whether refrigerated or frozen, always use an airtight container. Exposure to air and moisture is the main cause of quality loss.
Clumping & texture changes: Some clumping or slight texture changes are normal, especially after freezing and thawing. This does not indicate spoilage — simply break up any clumps before use.
Signs to watch for: Discard pollen that has an off smell, visible mold, or has been stored in a warm or humid environment for an extended period.
